CARIUMA + JPO
Muralist, JPO (John Paul O’Grodnick), collaborated with us to bring you a limited-edition sneaker unlike any other. JPO doesn’t shy away from using bold, stop-and-stare colors and shapes that challenge and elevate the urban landscapes in which he paints. These high tops are high art.
From where do you draw inspiration?
Everything is an inspiration, from walking down busy streets in NYC, to just making breakfast in the morning. It’s not what you see, it’s how you see it.
If you could describe your work in 3-5 words, what would they be?
Which artist (living or dead) would you want to share a meal with & why?
Dan Witz – to discuss his process, subject matter and his view of life in general.
What advice would you give your 16 year-old self?
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
Going to Haiti in 2018 with a small group of muralists and members of the charity, Trellis Arch, to paint murals at local schools for children.
What musicians do you listen to (if any) while you work?
The National, Animal Collective, Black Coffee, mouse on the keys, Charles Lloyd, Anderson .Paak … the list goes on, but those are at the top.
What about being a muralist / artist is the most satisfying?
Emotionally connecting with viewers through my work by doing what I love everyday, and inspiring as many as I can to do the same.
Name a young, up-and-coming street artist that you are keeping tabs on?
Rob Anderson @robandersonart
What made you want to collab with us?
Cariuma creates a fresh and quality-driven take on an iconic transgenerational style of sneaker.
I thought my work would complement the brand’s path to stand out in a crowd through the juxtaposition of their classic look and my controlled chaotic style of art.
