Gabriela Gelli

Rio

Gabriela Gelli sees art as a powerful tool – so the girl born in Rio made her passion an instrument of communication. A young rising artist in the city art scene, she expresses herself through a vintage-fused minimalist lens. Behind all this mystery, she seeks inspirations from familiar names, Picasso, Henri Matisse, Van Gogh, and the energy of her home city, Rio.

At 22 years old, she is about to get her degree in Design and Visual Communication at one of the most prestigious universities in the city, PUC-Rio. Gabriela is full of dreams and aspirations, typical of talented dreamers such as herself. She seeks to change her own city for the better, this beautiful and colorful city that is full of life, yet chaotic at the same time.

Gabriela’s background is a little different, at the age of 16 she struggled through a heart operation and a post-traumatic crisis. That was when the artist started experiencing art in a healing way by developing works based on her personal experience. Since then, Gabi keeps a quiet and peaceful lifestyle, maintaining a routine of going to classes, working in her studio, having refreshing swims at Ipanema beach, visiting the CCBB (Banco do Brasil Cultural Center), and reading design and art books. One of her current reads is “What are you looking at?” by Will Gompertz, a book which doesn’t give any answer to the question, but instead gives exercises and interrogations, leaving the reader to search for their own answers, and that’s something she can relate to, because being an artist is all about idealizing and searching…or simply dreaming.
